Sentient Observer is about helping yourself become a better you. Our days would be much more blissful if we could simply become happier, healthier, less stressed and more satisfied. We are constantly inundated with messages of how to go about this. The problem is figuring out how to do it in a realistic way.
Almost daily another person’s idea of the best diet hits the bookshelves. There are so many popular diets that it makes it feel almost impossible to know which one is right for you. Many relaxation techniques sound hokey, so even if they do work, we hesitate to try them out of fear of looking silly. Recently there has been a lot of hype about being happy. Who does not want to be happy? Experts now tell us that the only way to become happy is to simply decide to be happy. If only it were really that simple.
Let’s face it. You can wake up every morning and tell yourself “I am happy,” but as soon as you spill coffee on your shirt while looking for your keys with kids screaming about all the things they forgot to tell you that they have to have for school that day, happiness flies out the window. At that point, you are so busy that you do not even notice happiness’ wings flapping in the wind.
Happiness is more like a journey, not a destination. You must first decide to be happy, and then take small actions on a daily basis to reach that goal. It requires you to figure out what makes you happy. Many of us have lost all identity in the swirl of work, school, kids, bills, broken down cars, and health problems, just to name a few.
This is a place to share my journey to happiness. I will tap into other people’s journeys and ask them to share as well. As I try new things and rediscover old ones that once made me happy, I will share the good and the bad of my findings along the way. Posts will include lifestyle changes, opinions of books, recipes of “happy” foods, interviews of people that have found a spot of happiness in their own lives, and guest blogs from others who want to share their journey. As with any journey of discovery, the map is undetermined, but gems are bound to be found along the way.
